General Grant Information
The Triad Chapter of Golfers Against Cancer distributes its fundraising contributions into grants that are then awarded to Comprehensive Cancer Centers at Duke, Wake Forest, and the University of North Carolina, and to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Since 1997, Golfers Against Cancer nationwide has funded cancer research, including matching funds, in the amount of $20,000,000. The Triad Chapter of GAC has raised over $1,500,000 since its founding in 2005.
The Grants Committee consists of current Triad GAC Board members - all of whom are medical professionals or non-medically trained individuals with a high knowledge base on cancer research. Annually the Committee thoroughly reviews a slate of project proposals from the various North Carolina institutions. Upon completion of their due diligence, the Committee (with Board approval) chooses to fund only the most promising projects that meet GAC's criteria. The Grants Commitee is in constant contact with the research facilities that are funded, and requires the institutions to provide status reports on the projects as they proceed.
GAC only funds projects that will provide measurable results over the expected timeframe of the project. Researchers are required to stipulate that the GAC funds do not go to pay administrative expenses. Priority consideration is given to researchers and specific projects that can leverage GAC's investment into outside matching funds.
We are pleased to announce here the recipients of our 2012 Grants.
