The mission of Golfers Against Cancer is very simple:
To raise as much money as possible to fund promising cancer research projects that result in saving lives. GAC is dedicated to raising these funds as an all-volunteer organization where virtually all the fund-raising efforts go directly to benefit cancer research versus administrative costs.
The vision is also simple:
The research dollars generated by GAC is used to fund seed grants - the hardest dollars for researchers to obtain. Yet seed money is absolutely essential to begin the research process. GAC fills this critical void. The dollars provided by GAC can lead to the "proof of concept" cancer research, which can result in 10:1 and sometimes 100:1 funding from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health. GAC focuses on specific projects with measurable results in an expected timeframe. Researchers are required to stipulate that the GAC funds do not go to administrative expenses. In addition, researchers and specific projects that can obtain matching funds to leverage the GAC investment receive priority consideration. Through interaction with the researchers and seeing what the combination of money and research can do, the volunteers at GAC know their vision of finding a cure for cancer is reachable in the very near future.
